Target

Full Name
Chromogranin B
Introduction
This gene encodes a tyrosine-sulfated secretory protein abundant in peptidergic endocrine cells and neurons. This protein may serve as a precursor for regulatory peptides. Craig et al. (1986) assigned the chromogranin B gene to chromosome 20. Craig et al. (1987) showed by in situ hybridization that the CHGB locus is on 20pter-p12. Jenkins et al. (1991) mapped the murine gene, symbolized Scg-1, to chromosome 2 by in situ hybridization and by interspecific backcross analysis.

Alternative Names
Chromogranin B; Secretogranin B; Secretogranin I; Chromogranin-B; SCG1; CGB; SgI; Secretogranin 1
Function
Secretogranin-1 is a neuroendocrine secretory granule protein, which may be the precursor for other biologically active peptides.
