Target

Full Name
BCL2 Like 2
Introduction
This gene encodes a member of the BCL-2 protein family. The proteins of this family form hetero- or homodimers and act as anti- and pro-apoptotic regulators. Expression of this gene in cells has been shown to contribute to reduced cell apoptosis under cytotoxic conditions. Diseases associated with BCL2L2 include Small Intestinal Adenocarcinoma. Among its related pathways are Photodynamic therapy-induced NF-kB survival signaling and Apoptosis Modulation and Signaling. GO annotations related to this gene include protein homodimerization activity and BH domain binding. An important paralog of this gene is BCL2L1.

Function
Promotes cell survival. Blocks dexamethasone-induced apoptosis. Mediates survival of postmitotic Sertoli cells by suppressing death-promoting activity of BAX.
