Target

Full Name
BRD1
Introduction
BRD1 (bromodomain containing 1) is a a component of the MOZ/MORF acetyltransferase complex that localizes to the nucleus and can interact with DNA and histone tails. BRD1 can stimulate acetylation of histones H3 and H4, thereby potentially playing a role in gene activation. Variation in this gene is associated with schozophrenia and bipolar disorder in some study populations.

Alternative Names
Bromodomain Containing 1; Bromodomain And PHD Finger-Containing Protein 2; BR140-Like Protein; BRPF2; BRL; Bromodomain-Containing; BR140-Like; BRPF1
Function
Scaffold subunit of various histone acetyltransferase (HAT) complexes, such as the MOZ/MORF and HBO1 complexes, that acts as a regulator of hematopoiesis (PubMed:16387653, PubMed:21753189, PubMed:21880731).
Plays a key role in HBO1 complex by directing KAT7/HBO1 specificity towards histone H3 'Lys-14' acetylation (H3K14ac), thereby promoting erythroid differentiation (PubMed:21753189).
