Target

Full Name
5-Hydroxytryptamine Receptor 1E
Introduction
Serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine; 5-HT) is a neurotransmitter thought to play a role in various cognitive and behavioral functions including feeding, sleep, pain, depression, and learning. Serotonin receptors have been divided into classes depending on their ligand binding and effector-coupling properties. G-protein coupled receptor for 5-hydroxytryptamine (serotonin). Ligand binding causes a conformation change that triggers signaling via guanine nucleotide-binding proteins (G proteins) and modulates the activity of down-stream effectors, such as adenylate cyclase. Signaling inhibits adenylate cyclase activity.

Alternative Names
5-HT1E
Function
G-protein coupled receptor for 5-hydroxytryptamine (serotonin). Also functions as a receptor for various alkaloids and psychoactive substances. Ligand binding causes a conformation change that triggers signaling via guanine nucleotide-binding proteins (G proteins) and modulates the activity of down-stream effectors, such as adenylate cyclase. Signaling inhibits adenylate cyclase activity.
